Every Linnet piece is grown, woven, sewn and stonewashed in six steps

About five months from a sown field near Fécamp to a folded duvet cover on the long table in Grey Lynn.

Read our story

  1. Grown

Sown in March on the Lefèvre farm near Fécamp, in the cool, damp Pays de Caux. In flower for a week in June.

  2. Retted

Pulled by the root in July and laid in rows on the field for six weeks, until dew and sun loosen the fibre.

  3. Woven

Spun and woven at the Ferraz mill near Guimarães, in northern Portugal, to 165 grams a square metre.

  4. Sewn

Cut and sewn in Grey Lynn by our three machinists, with double-folded hems and corozo buttons.

  5. Stonewashed

Washed twice at 40 degrees with pumice from Taupō, which softens the linen and shrinks it before you do.

  6. Folded

Tumble-dried, checked under daylight on the long table, folded and tied with undyed cotton tape.

The open end of a Flax linen duvet cover folded back: the weave, the double-folded hem, two corozo buttons, and a cotton tie knotted to the corner of a white duvet

Our duvet cover, up close: the weave, the hem and the ties

Point to a detail to see how it is made. Every piece is checked under daylight on the long table before it is folded.

  • Mid-weight, with the natural slub of flax. Heavy enough to drape over the side of the bed, open enough to breathe on a humid night.

Linen bedding chosen for the way you sleep

Three questions, answered the way we would answer you in the studio.

At night, do you run hot or cold?
How do you like your sheets to feel?
What is your bedroom like in the morning?

We would start you with

The sheet set in Salt

You run hot and like a crisp sheet. On the warmest nights, sleep under the flat sheet alone, and line-dry it for a cooler, crisper feel.

Reviews from Linnet owners in New Zealand and Australia

4.9 out of 5 from 1,648 reviews, every one from a verified owner.

  • We sleep cooler under this than under the cotton we had before. Estuary is softer and greyer in person, which is exactly what we wanted.

  • I run hot, and these are the first sheets that do not cling on a humid night. The deep fitted sheet goes over our topper with room to spare.

  • The bed blanket goes over our duvet from May to September and on its own in summer. It weighs less than it looks.

Questions about Linnet linen

Will linen feel rough?

Not ours. Every piece is stonewashed twice with pumice before it reaches you, so it is soft on the first night and softer every wash after that.

Is linen bedding hot in summer?

It is the coolest thing to sleep under on a humid Auckland night. Flax fibres are hollow, take up moisture and dry fast, so the sheet never clings.

Do I need to iron it?

No. The soft creases are part of stonewashed linen. Shake it out and put it straight on the bed, or line-dry it for a slightly crisper feel.

Will it shrink?

Stonewashing shrinks every piece before it leaves the studio, so expect no more than 2% after your first wash at 40 degrees.

Do you send to Australia?

Yes, from Grey Lynn to anywhere in Australia in 4 to 7 working days, free over $200. Prices show in NZD here and in AUD at checkout, with no duty to pay.
