Care
Wash at 40 degrees with like colours and a gentle liquid detergent, without bleach or softener. Line-dry for a crisper feel or tumble on low for a softer one. Never iron it: the creases are part of stonewashed linen. Washing and drying linen

How every Linnet waffle blanket is made
About five months from a retting field in Normandy to a folded blanket in Grey Lynn.

Retted
Pulled flax laid in rows on the field near Fécamp until dew and sun loosen the fibre.

Woven
Woven slowly on a dobby loom into square waffle cells, at 320 grams a square metre.

Stonewashed
Washed twice with Taupō pumice, which opens the waffle and gives it loft.

Folded
Checked cell by cell under daylight, then folded into a soft square.
A waffle linen throw for the sofa, and a bed blanket for winter
The throw is sized for a sofa or the foot of a bed. The bed size covers a king with room to tuck, over the duvet in July and on its own in January.

From the mill
The waffle goes on our oldest dobby loom, slowly, so every cell sits square. Then it travels to Auckland for the washing, and it comes back to us in photographs looking like bread that has risen.

The bed blanket goes over our duvet from May to September and on its own in summer. It weighs less than it looks.

The throw lives on the sofa and has been through the wash a dozen times. The waffle has only got softer and loftier.

It takes the edge off the sea breeze on the deck at night. I would buy the bed size next time.

Questions about the waffle blanket
Can I sleep under it alone in summer?
Yes. At 320 gsm the waffle traps a little air without holding heat, so on a warm night it is all you need over a sheet.
Throw or bed size?
The throw (140 × 200 cm) suits a sofa or the foot of a bed. The bed size (240 × 260 cm) covers a queen or king to the edges.
Will the waffle flatten?
No. Washing opens the cells further. Shake it out wet and dry it on the line or a low tumble.
Is it itchy?
Not at all. It is flax, not wool, and stonewashed twice, so it is soft against bare skin.
How do I wash it?
At 40 degrees on its own the first time, then with like colours. Line-dry or tumble low, and it needs no ironing.
