Quick answers on ad creative
Short answers to the questions that do not need a whole page.
Does the agency make the ad creative, or do I have to supply it?
It depends on the agency, so ask before you sign. Some manage the account and expect you to supply the photos and videos, which can leave nobody making new ads. Bartley Studio’s account management includes the ad creative and the product video, with 20 or more new creatives a month for a small to mid-sized brand.
Read the full answerCan a creative partner work alongside our existing media agency?
Yes. Ad creative can be ordered on its own: the creative partner makes the ads and a test plan, and your agency or media buyer launches and manages them. Agree who decides what gets tested and how results are shared each week, so every batch builds on what the last one learned.
Should our media buying and creative sit with the same team?
It helps when they do, because the person reading the results decides what gets made next, with no hand-off. Separate teams work too, provided results reach the creative team every week and both are judged on the same CPA or ROAS target. Bartley Studio offers either: ad creative on its own, or account management with the creative included.
How do we add new creatives without resetting learning or killing the current winner?
Keep new creative out of the winner’s ad set. Meta lists adding a new ad to an ad set as a significant edit that sends it back into the learning phase, while adding a new ad set to a campaign with Advantage+ campaign budget does not reset the others. Launch each batch as its own ad set, or through Meta’s creative testing tool.
Read the full answerShould we only launch new creatives when the current ones fall off?
No. A new creative needs time and spend to prove itself, so waiting for a winner to fall off leaves weeks with nothing ready to replace it. Launch new batches on a steady schedule, sized to your spend, so the next winner is already proven when the current one tires.
Read the full answerHow much test spend should each new creative get before we kill it?
Enough to judge it on your target metric. A common rule is two to three times your target CPA before you turn off a creative that has not converted, or sooner if its hook rate or click-through rate is far below your other ads. For high-priced products, judge early on add-to-carts or checkouts, then confirm on purchases.
Read the full answerWhat hit rate should we expect from new creatives?
Expect most new creatives to lose. Motion’s 2026 benchmarks put the average hit rate at 4% for accounts spending under $10,000 a month, rising to 8.8% above $1 million. Define a winner before each test, such as beating your control’s CPA at a set spend, and plan how many creatives you need from that.
Read the full answerDo lo-fi "ugly" ads really beat polished brand creative?
Sometimes, because lo-fi ads look like the posts around them and usually carry one direct message. What wins is the hook and the message, not the low production value. Meta’s creative diversification checklist lists creator-led and brand-led lo-fi content alongside polished video, and treats the mix as a way to reach new audiences.
Read the full answerDo we need a creative strategist, and should that be in-house or agency?
Someone has to do the job: read the results, choose the next angles and brief the ads. At lower spend that is usually the founder, the media buyer or the creative partner; an in-house strategist pays off once the volume of tests fills a role. Bartley Studio’s ad creative comes with a test plan for each batch, and account management includes a testing plan and a monthly report.
Which creative metrics matter: hook rate, hold rate, thumbstop, unique outbound CTR?
All four, for different questions. Hook rate, or thumb-stop rate (3-second video plays divided by impressions), shows whether people stop; hold rate (commonly ThruPlays divided by 3-second plays) shows whether they stay; unique outbound CTR shows whether they leave for your site. CPA and ROAS decide whether an ad won, and the other metrics explain why.
Read the full answerHow many creatives should a new product launch test?
Enough distinct concepts to find the angle the market responds to: several different reasons to buy in the first couple of weeks, rather than many versions of one. Your budget sets the ceiling, because each concept needs two to three times your target CPA in spend to be judged. Iterate once one of them wins.
Read the full answerHow do we organise creative by angle, persona and format so Meta sees real diversity?
Tag every ad with its angle, persona and format in the ad name, then plan each batch on a grid of angles against personas and fill the empty cells. Change the visual along with the angle, because Meta says creative that is too similar may be delivered to the same audiences. Format then carries each concept into Reels, Stories and the feed.
Read the full answer"Creative is the new targeting": what does that mean for my account?
It means the ad itself now does most of the work of finding buyers. With broad targeting, Meta decides who sees an ad largely from what the ad shows and who responds to it, so different creative reaches different people. For your account, that means fewer audience tweaks and more genuinely different ads, each made for a specific buyer.
Read the full answerShould I make my own UGC or pay creators?
Make your own first if you are comfortable on camera and the product is easy to show: it costs time rather than money, and you learn which angles work. Pay creators when you need faces and voices you cannot supply. Agree paid usage rights in writing before you run any creator’s video as an ad.
Read the full answerWhat kind of Facebook ads work best for ecommerce?
Ads that show the product clearly in the first second, in a setting the buyer recognises, with one reason to buy. For most stores that means a mix of strong product images and short videos, with new ones added as old ones wear out. The free Meta Ad Library shows every ad a brand is running, which makes it the easiest place to find examples.
Read the full answerHow many ads should go in each ad set?
Fewer than you might think. Meta’s guidance on ad volume is to decrease ads per ad set while keeping the creative diverse, noting that one ad can contain up to ten creative assets. Keep the current winners and the latest test batch live, and turn off ads that have had a fair test and lost.
