Quick answers on store conversion
Short answers to the questions that do not need a whole page.
Lots of add to carts but very few purchases. Why?
Usually a cost or a step that appears after the cart: delivery charges, slow delivery, too few payment options or an account the buyer must create. Some loss is normal: in Littledata’s October 2026 benchmark, 79% of sessions with a cart ended without a purchase at the median Shopify store. Dozens of carts and no orders at all suggests something is broken, so place a test order and check your tracking.
Read the full answerMy conversion rate keeps dropping. Which product page works better?
Find out what changed before you redesign the page. A falling rate often follows a change in traffic, such as a new ad audience, a broader campaign or a seasonal dip, or a change in tracking. If the drop shows in every traffic source, the better page is the one that answers more of the buyer’s questions: check yours against the product page guide and change one part at a time, starting with the photos.
Read the full answerOur website is new and we're not getting sales. Are ads the answer?
Ads can bring the first visitors, but only once the store can turn them into buyers. Before spending, check that the product pages show the product clearly, that delivery and returns are easy to find and that purchases are tracked. Then start with a modest budget on one sales campaign, so the first results tell you whether the problem is the ads or the store.
Read the full answerWhat should the first product image be?
Lead with the frame that shows the product where it belongs, looking its best. In Shopify the first image is the featured image, which also appears on collection pages, the cart, the checkout and the home page, so it has to work small. For furniture and homewares that is usually a room scene; for a uniform collection grid, lead with a clean shot on one background and put the room scene second.

In Google Analytics 4, bounce rate is the share of sessions that were not engaged: 10 seconds or less, one page and no key event. The median Shopify store in Littledata’s October 2026 benchmark bounced 39% of sessions. Far above that usually means visitors landed on a slow page, or one that did not match what they clicked, so send each ad to the matching product page.
My collection page looks messy because images are different sizes. How do I fix it?
Give every product’s main image the same shape. Shopify’s guidance is that images display at the same size only when they share an aspect ratio, and 2048 x 2048 px usually works best for square images. Many themes can also crop every card to square or portrait in the theme editor, but that can cut products off, so fixing the images themselves is cleaner.

In the feed, Google settles it: image_link should focus solely on the product, and in-context shots go in lifestyle_image_link, up to five per product with no text or promotional overlays. Performance Max also serves the image assets in each asset group across its other placements, so test lifestyle against clean creative there, judged on conversion value rather than CTR.
Read the full answerAds Manager isn't showing purchases that Shopify shows. Is our tracking broken, and do we need the Conversions API?
Some gap is normal: Meta counts only purchases it attributes to an ad within your attribution setting, while Shopify counts every order. A large or sudden gap is usually tracking, and yes, you want the Conversions API. In Shopify’s Facebook and Instagram channel, the Enhanced and Maximum data-sharing levels add it alongside the pixel, out of reach of browser ad blockers. Check the level, then compare Events Manager with Shopify orders.
Read the full answerShould paid social traffic land on the product page or a landing page?
For a single product with a clear offer, the product page usually wins: it is one tap from the add to cart, and it is the page you are improving anyway. A landing page earns its place when the ad needs more explaining than a product page holds, such as a bundle, a new category or a problem the buyer must understand first. Test both behind the same ad and judge them on CPA, not landing page conversion rate.
Read the full answerWhat else should I have in place besides Meta ads?
A store that converts the clicks, and ways to reach people again who did not buy the first time. That means product pages with clear photos and delivery details, purchase tracking that works, email flows for abandoned checkouts and new subscribers, and reviews from real customers. Google Shopping and search then catch people already looking for what you sell, while Meta finds people who were not.
Read the full answerDo I need photo reviews and customer photos on product pages?
You can sell without them, but they help most with anything bought on looks or fit, because they show the product in real homes, on real people and in real light. Ask for photos in your review request emails and show every review, critical ones included. Never write, edit or remove reviews to flatter the product: fake or misleading reviews are illegal under Australian Consumer Law.
Read the full answerMeta reports far more landing page views than Shopify sessions. Which is right?
Both, because they count different things. Meta counts a landing page view each time someone clicks an ad and the page loads, so repeat clicks add up, while Shopify groups a visitor’s activity into one session that ends after 30 minutes of inactivity, with identified bots filtered out by default. Use Shopify for sessions and conversion rate, and Meta’s figure to compare ads with each other.
Read the full answerProducts that are always "on sale": OK or not?
Not if the sale price is really the normal price. In Australia, a was/now comparison can mislead customers if the product was not sold at the higher price for a reasonable period before the sale, and a business can still be in breach even if it believed the claim was right at the time. Set an honest everyday price and run genuine, time-limited sales. This is general information, not legal advice.
Why aren't all my product photos showing on the product page or on mobile?
Usually a theme setting rather than a missing file. Many themes can hide other variants’ images once a variant is selected, which hides every photo assigned to another variant, and some mobile galleries show one image at a time without thumbnails. Check the product page settings in the theme editor and which images are assigned to variants, and note that Shopify only accepts images under 20 MB.
Do large image files slow my store and hurt conversion?
They can, because the main product image is often the largest thing on the page, and Google’s target for Largest Contentful Paint is 2.5 seconds or less. Shopify serves each browser the best image format it supports, so the usual culprits are oversized banners, images added through apps or custom code, and too many images loading at once. Test the product page on a phone.
